The circular issues I encounter due to the effects of Covid have honestly pushed me to breaking point.
My visa status (because I do things properly and by the book) does
not allow me access to public funds. Therefore no Universal credit.
I was made redundant because I was closest to meeting my 2 year work anniversary and on a team of more than 2 people. Therefore, I do not qualify for the Jobseekers allowance. In addition, I can’t contact Citizen’s advice for assistance because it’s been more than 13 weeks since I was made redundant…
I couldn’t apply for work because I was safeguarding my mother. Now there are even more people trying to find work who are insanely overqualified for the roles.
Having no support funds means that, after my mother died and her pensions stopped, I used up the insurance payout (divided by 20 because it was a South African policy) on paying my bills and the moving expenses to leave the expensive rental area we were living in (it was what we could afford closest to the cancer-hospital).
Passport nightmare…
Now it turns out that my passport being expired might cause a
problem for me to get a job… As to why it’s expired– this requires an
explanation:
When I wanted to try get my renewal process started, I didn’t have
the leave available because I used it for my mother’s oncology appointments.
Then I didn’t have the money for it.
Then Covid hit and the SA Embassy closed with no further info.
I finally got a response to a letter, giving me the required forms,
but fingerprints are required to be done beforehand and then the application must
be posted in.
This costs £80-£90 in the UK to do now that the embassy is closed
for appointments.
Of course, due to the various lockdowns, no one is able to do
fingerprints because it requires close contact.
Not to mention, now that I’ve moved out of the Greater London area (due
to lack of funds), the closest station who can do fingerprints is 3 hours away…
Is it really too much to ask for something to go right for once…
